S.A.V.E Cliffe Woods

 (Save Agricultural Village Environment)

Dear Residents,

I am sure by now you are all aware of the planned development of 225 houses on the land west of Town Road, surrounding Ladyclose Avenue and Mortimers Avenue. This will just be the first phase as Medway Council’s local plan has earmarked the site for 600 houses. If the developer gets planning permission for the first 225 houses, almost certainly the rest will follow in due course.

Many residents are upset and angered by this insensitive development that will ruin our lovely rural village environment, especially as we don’t have sufficient resources for the current housing stock.

If you have already written an objection to the Planning Office, MP & local councillors, many thanks for your support. If Medway Council turns down the initial planning application, I hope that we can count on your continued support when an appeal is lodged with the Secretary of State and planning inspector at Bristol. We will keep you informed should this happen.

The SAVE Cliffe Woods committee was formed when we first saw the developer’s pre-consultation document. The committee comprises 13 local residents who are dedicated to putting a stop to this development. We have engaged a number of professional bodies to assist us in fighting this and we hope for a successful outcome. The work we are doing on your behalf is done by unpaid volunteers, but we are having to pay for essential professional consultants in order to have any chance of succeeding. It is worth noting that the residents in Hoo have been successful in quashing a planning application for 400 houses, so we are certainly in with a chance of succeeding in Cliffe Woods.

If you would like to give us some financial support to help with the battle, we would welcome any donations large or small (every little helps as they say). If there are any funds left at the end of our fight, monies will be returned to contributors in proportion to the total funds donated. Kindly print this page and complete the tear off slip below and enclose your donation cash or cheque (cheques should be payable to Save Cliffe Woods) and send to the following address:

Two Rivers, Ladyclose Avenue, Cliffe Woods, Rochester, Kent, ME3 8JL

Yours sincerely
